We are a group of
believers who worship in the Greenwood/Bessemer community. Our
congregation comes from many different directions, each Sunday
and Wednesday, for a time of family building. We want to
celebrate and expresses our thanks for who God is and what He is
doing in our lives. We recognize our imperfections, but we
strive to be more like the one who created us and gave His life
for us.
The Canaan Baptist Church has been serving the area since 1818.
It is recognized for its God-focus mission to be a lighthouse of
hope into a community that God has placed us in to serve. The
church sees that we are all on a spiritual journey – Canaan
Baptist Church would like to assist everyone on this journey.
For the church family, we see that our journey is to love God,
share life, serve others and show Jesus to our world.
As the generations have come and gone, we strive to hold to
those principles of being focused on the truth of God’s word in
our teaching, preaching, and sharing with others. It is now up
to us to be our best for the generations that come behind us.
May they truly find the truth of God’s love and desire to make
Him a part of their lives.
We affiliate ourselves with several ministries that have a
strong presence in sharing that truth in our world. We join with
other churches locally to form the Bessemer Baptist Association.
We also join with churches throughout our state to carry out the
Great Commission and the Great Commandment through the Alabama
Baptist State Convention and nationally through the Southern
Baptist Convention. Through these various co operations, we are
able to fully support over 11,000 missionaries through our North
American Mission Board and the International Mission Board.
