Getting Connected
     to Worship Opportunities

Worship is an attitude that does not start in a service but comes to the service from the heart of the people. Each of our musical groups strive to bring an attitude of Worship each week as we rehears and perform. Worship is a lifestyle that takes place everyday in the hearts and lives of the people of God.

Adult Choir is the foundation of the Music and Worship Ministry at Canaan. This group meets for rehearsal on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 in the Sanctuary. The Choir sings on a regular basis for Morning Worship and special events such as Easter, Christmas, July 4th, Revivals, Festivals, etc. This is not an auditioned group and anyone is welcome to come join us each week.  All we ask is that you come with an attitude of Praise.

Praise Team is a small auditioned group of worship leaders. They often step out of the choir and lead on their own. They are used in morning and evening worship as well as a featured group in worship. Each member of the Praise Team must be an active member of the Adult Choir ministry in good standing. Praise Team rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and again at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings before our first Worship Service.

Praise Band is a small group of rhythm instruments including guitars, bass, drums, keyboard, and piano. This group plays for almost all services where available. They are a very versatile group that gives foundation to our Worship. This group is not limited in number but in space.

Orchestra This growing group meets on Wednesday Evenings at 6:00 under the direction of Dr. Howard Beckner. Dr. Beckner is a former Band Director and enjoys teaching and training players that have been away from their instruments for a while. This group currently plays in our services once a month and occassionally joins the choir on special events and anthems. This is not an auditioned group but sight reading skills are helpful.

From time to time there will be a need for extra musicians in special events. If you play an instrument, especially an unusual one we can find a way to use your gifts and talent in worship. We often have 5th Sunday evening events that feature our musicians. Come and share these rare musical gifts with our congregation.

His To Own (H20) is a Student Choir that sings occasionally in worship. The choir meets on Sunday Afternoons at 4:00 p.m. Any student that is between the 7th and 12th grade can be a part of this ministry. This group also tours in the summer.

Children’s Choir ministry is divided by age groups. Preschool Choir is for ages 4-5 years old and uses music to enhance motor skills through rhythm and instruments. Music Makers Choir is for Kids who are in the 1st and 2nd grade. Young Musicians Choir is divided into 2 groups, 3rd and 4th grades 5th and 6th grades.. Theses older groups work on music reading and singing skills while also preparing music to perform in worship. They also perform musicals at certain times of the year. All of the Children’s Choir meet on Wednesday Evenings at 6:15 p.m.

Handbells meet on Sunday afternoon at 4:45. This group consists of 11 players and several alternates. This is an audition group at the present time. There may be some beginner classes in the future. Handbells will play occasionally in worship and during special seasons of the year.

It takes many behind the scene to make our Worship happen. These include those who operate the Sound Board and Powerpoint and Computer Visuals. If you are interested in being a part of this team there is always room for more. Let us know so that we can train you and put you to work.

Drama is a powerful tool for worship as well. We are in the process of developing a regular Drama ministry. Until that is established, we use drama in our special events and musicals in all age groups. If drama is where you feel God calling you to minister please contact the church for more information on how you can get involved.
