Series: Life Lessons from Luke

Message: Christmas – When Nobody Becomes Somebody

Text: Luke 2:7-20 (AM 12/26/10)

We pass them everyday unnoticed. They don’t show up on our radar. They’re the invisible people in the traffic patterns of our lives. Unintentionally we deem them unimportant. Those we forget God uses. The Shepherds tending their flocks on the first Christmas morn were invisible to the Jews. But the Father would take the unnoticed and common to introduce us to the uncommon – when God became a man in a Bethlehem stable!

I.             Notice the People He Came to Save (7-10)

Jesus came for all people

·        People from every station in life – “Now there were…shepherds”

·        People from every society in the world – “Will be to all people…”

II.           Notice the Place He Came to Start (15-16)

Jesus came to every place

·        He satisfied the scriptures message – “When the angels…”

·        He settled the scope of His ministry – “Let us go to Bethlehem…”

III.          Notice the Problem He Came to Solve (11-14)

Jesus came to bring peace

·        He came for sinners – “There is born to you…a Savior”

·        He came to bring salvation “On earth peace…”

IV.         Notice the Purpose He Came to Serve (17-20)

Jesus came to be proclaimed

·        Those who see Him study His Grace - “All who heard it marveled”

·        Those who see Him sing His praises – “Glorifying & praising God”

·        Those who see Him share His love – “They made widely known”

Application to life: God uses common shepherds to teach us about the uncommon nature of His transcending love. May we follow in their footsteps to Bethlehem and beyond during the New Year. The uncommon awaits us!
